Welcome back readers! This month’s edition includes health policy highlights from conferences that our Health Policy News team attended during the past two months. First up is the National Academy of State Health Policy (NASHP) Annual Conference – where the undertaking of Medicaid Redeterminations was discussed alongside topics like Justice-Involved Waivers and Maternal Health. Next the Home and Community-Based Services Conference included sessions on continuous improvement to Long-Term Services and Support (LTSS) delivery systems and outcomes. Lastly, the team reports in on the Annual National Adult Protective Services Association Conference, where state and county Adult Protective Services officials, policy and research experts, and training enhancement instructors shared their knowledge along the theme of Advancing with Purpose and Strength.
As we approach the end of National Recovery month, our final article outlines key efforts states are undertaking to support provision of evidence-based treatments for Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and individuals in recovery.
Insights from the 2023 Annual Conference of the National Academy for State Health Policy
This year’s National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) conference took place in August. This was the largest NASHP conference to-date with over 1,000 attendees from across the country. As states continue to take-on the herculean task of post-Continuous Coverage Requirement (CCR) Medicaid redeterminations, the theme of this year’s conference was It’s a “Marathon, Not a Sprint”. 2023 Home and Community-Based Services Conference Insights
In late August, PCG Health and Human Services subject matter experts attended and exhibited at the 2023 Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) conference in Baltimore, which PCG also sponsored. This annual conference brings together state, federal, and local agencies, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss critical issues in the HCBS space, learn from experts, and turn those learnings into solutions to improve Long-Term Services and Support (LTSS) delivery systems and outcomes. Advancing with Purpose and Strength: The 34th Annual National Adult Protective Services Association Conference
Speakers from across the country consisting of state and county Adult Protective Services officials, policy and research experts, and training enhancement instructors shared insights on topics ranging from financial exploitation and quality measures to peer support and professional development at this year’s National Adult Protective Services Association Conference. The topics at the conference featured a thoughtful mix of insights related to state responses to staff retention, caseload management, and forward-looking policy efforts on quality consistency and workload demands. States Efforts to Support People in Recovery
September is National Recovery month, a time during which we celebrate and support people in recovery and their resiliency. States have taken a variety of policy approaches to support provision of evidence-based treatments for Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and individuals in recovery.
