On October 29th at 11am EST, the Health Policy News team will host a webinar to discuss the release of our annual fall white paper. This year’s topic is “States Take the Lead: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Ten Years Later.”
Given the upcoming election’s impact on health policy and provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), we wanted to take time to discuss the unique history of the ACA—particularly, how states have risen to the occasion, leveraged opportunities, and addressed gaps that resulted from changes during ACA implementation to make the law work best for their local needs.
The white paper will provide a brief historical context of the ACA, as well as the recent legal challenges that have called into question certain provisions of the law. The main focus will be several areas in which the ACA has provided both opportunities and challenges for states. The paper will also highlight states that have shown an ability to be nimble, thus positioning themselves in a leading policy role on many key provisions of the ACA. Lastly, it will examine state reactions to major components of the ACA, including the individual mandate; approaches to Medicaid expansion; and the use of Section 1332 State Relief and Empowerment waivers in adapting the ACA to certain state population needs or policy goals.
We hope that you will join us and participate in this interactive discussion in advance of a busy election week. Please submit any questions or topics you would like us to speak about by emailing our team at healthpolicynews@pcgus.com.
We look forward to sharing our special October edition of Health Policy News featuring our white paper in advance of the October 29th webinar. The information to join the webinar is below and we will be sending reminder emails as we approach the date.
